Last Night

Hello all,

Last night in my class we had to give demonstrative speeches. Most everyone did one on food!

We had a Chicken Buffalo Dip made in the crock pot served with tortilla chips. Puppy Chow, made with chocolate, peanut butter and chex mix. Sugar Cookies with a cream cheese frosting, real Chinese tea (green/flower tea), OOlong tea, and Sour Cream Taco Dip.

The food was GREAT!! Way to go class!!!

Rosie's....Part 2

This past Saturday (1/26/11), I was joined by a guest to eat at Rosie's for lunch. The last time I went to Rosie's I gave a favorable review and wanted to try something different this time.

We arrived around 3:30 and were seated in the bar area since they were still serving lunch. The other side opened for dinner only. There wasn't a lot of people in the bar area at this time. The waitress we had was the same one who had served Greedy Eater 2 and I the last time. The service was prompt this time as it was the last time. I ordered the Bacon Wrapped Shrimp for an appetizer and the Pizza Caesar Grilled Flatbread for my meal. My guest ordered the Spinach and Duck Salad.

Note: My apologies for the not so great looking pictures. Besides natural light towards the front of the bar and some dimly lit lamps and candles, the camera on my phone didn't take the greatest pictures even with the flash on.

Greedy Eater Guest Review:
The spinach and duck salad looked great and tasted even better!  It is nice to know there is a place in town where you can get duck and it is not greasy or covered with more breading than meat.  The salad came with a bacon honey mustard dressing which nicely complimented the almonds and mandarin oranges.  At $8.95, the salad was priced reasonably and the atmosphere in the bar seating area is pleasant with the historic architecture still intact.

I also tried one of GE #1’s bacon wrapped shrimp—nice sized shrimp wrapped in bacon with a generous amount of barbeque sauce on it served over fresh greens.  The bacon was crisp, the shrimp tender.  I think anything wrapped in bacon is delicious!

Greedy Eater 1 Review:
I thought the bacon wrapped shrimp was good. The BBQ sauce was thick and tangy. The shrimp was cooked perfectly and was deveined, which was a good thing.

My pizza caesar grilled flatbread was really good. It consisted of tomato and melted mozzarella on top of garlic brushed flatbread. There was also a small caesar salad on the plate with the flatbread. The caesar salad wasn't bad. There were plenty of croutons. There was also a good amount of dressing on the salad.

My bill total came to $20.74 which included the appetizer ($9.95), my meal ($8.95), and tax. I left a $4.00 tip.

Overall it was another good meal from Rosie's. I think my guest reviewer would agree that Rosie's serves good food and is worth recommending.

Hibachi Grill

This past Saturday we went to Hibachi Grill. We got there after 2:00pm which was after the lunch crowd and before the dinner crowd. Overall we were both GREATLY disappointed!

Greedy Eater 2 Review:
The food that should have been hot was barely room temperature and at the dessert bar they had a shrimp, calamari, and clams dish next to the bananas, and puddings.

There was not much of a selection of desserts. The sushi was mediocre, I have had better. The atmosphere was nice and the service was good.

As a buffet I expect to have my drinks included in the buffet price of $6.39 each, but they charged $1.59 for a cup of coffee. Thank goodness I only had water to drink for dinner. I have to say that the coffee helped with washing down their mediocre dessert. I can honestly say I will not go back.

Greedy Eater 1 Review:
I have to agree with G.E. 2 regarding the temperature of the food. I loaded up my plate with meat, only to have half of the meat be hot, the other half was lukewarm. The flavors of the meat were okay, but I've tasted better at Imperial Buffet and Mings.

The dessert looked good at first glance, but tasted bland. I'm glad the buffet was only $6.39 a person or else I would've felt like I got ripped off.

If you want a cheap, mediocre buffet, then go to Hibachi, but if you want a really good buffet, just go to Imperial.

The total came out to $15.48. A $2.00 tip was left.

Longhorn Smokehouse

We stopped in at Longhorn on 3/12/11 around lunch time for carryout since neither one of us has been there before. A co-worker of Greedy Eater 1 recommended trying their food.

We decided to get the 3 meat combo that comes with two sides. The three meats chosen was beef brisket (this was chopped), smoked turkey (4 slices), and ribs (4). The ribs cost an extra $2.50. The two sides we got were scalloped potatoes and cole slaw with the vinaigrette. We got the mixed sauce (hot and mild). The meat was cooked perfectly and the sauce had a warm kick to it. We would definitely eat there again.

Greedy Eater 1 Review:
I thought the food was pretty good. It wasn't the best barbecue I've had, but it tasted good enough for me to go back.

Greedy Eater 2 Review:
I enjoyed the three meat combo from Longhorn. You could really taste the smoke from the pit that was infused into the meat. I do not think that the ribs should have been an extra $2.50 as being part of the three meat combo. I think that if you order a three meat combo then you should be able to choose three meats, without an extra charge for getting ribs. It's a "smokehouse" for goodness sakes! The coleslaw was light with a vinaigrette dressing, they also have creamy coleslaw. All three meats were good, definitely a must try.

Rosie's

Rosie's is located in downtown Bloomington on E. Front St. We went in the middle of the lunch hour (before 12:30pm) on 3/11/11. The place was pretty full when we walked in. The non-bar side was full, but the bar side had some open seats at the bar. There were two waitresses working on the bar side, with one also working the bar. Even though they were busy, they took our order promptly. The lunch menu provided a good variety of food which consisted of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers.

Greedy Eater 1 Review:
I ordered the Dynamic Duo sandwich which had ham, turkey, lettuce american cheese, and honey mustard on a pretzel served with a side of homemade potato chips. I was curious to see how it would look and taste. The sandwich and potato chips were pretty good. The sandwich was nice and warm and pre-cut. The price of the sandwich was $6.95.

I tried G.E. 2's bacon cheeseburger. It was really good. The slight char of the meat kind of reminded me of Portillo's.

Greedy Eater 2 Review:
I ordered the bacon cheeseburger that had 4 perfectly cooked strips of bacon, lettuce, tomato, and pickles. The sandwich was served on a Kaiser bun with a bountiful amount of fries. The fries were seasoned perfectly with kosher salt. The burger was flamed broiled. The taste was amazing! The flavors were great, it was hard to stop eating! I had a coffee and water to drink. The coffee cost $2.00, the sandwich and fries $7.50.

All the food was worth the wait and our waitress was flawless when it came to waiting on her customers and getting the food out while it was still hot. The other waitress was just as flawless, they worked the floor and bar amazingly! Both of the ladies were attentive and made sure my coffee was always full, and to a coffee drinker that's important. I think that the only thing I didn't care for was the unisex bathroom. Other than that the atmosphere and hospitality were great! Definitely a MUST on the return list.

The total bill (not including tip) was $18.05 which included the sandwich, the burger, and coffee. We left a tip of $3.55. We would definitely go back and try some of their appetizers and entrees and hope they're cooked just as well as the sandwich and burger.Website: http://www.rosiesbloomington.com/

Eric's Restaraunt

September 3, 2010: Our apologies for adding this review late.

Greedy Eater 1 saw one of the News 25 guys on tv eating at this place and liking it. We figured we should give it a try. This place is located across Miller Park in Bloomington. The restaurant is right next to a grocery/bakery. The parking is so-so. We walked in to find that the place was almost full. There was one "full-time" waitress, while the other waitress was also the hostess and bartender. It was 3 minutes before we were seated. Then another 10 minutes before our order was taken. With the place being almost full, there probably should have been another waitress available.

Greedy Eater 2 Review:
I was expecting a real authentic Mexican meal. I ordered the Biftec a la Mexicana. The meal cost $8.99. What I received was a steak with peppers on top and some rice and beans. The steak was cooked well, but I wasn't there for a steak meal.

I wanted horchata to drink....not too much to ask in an "authentic Mexican restaurant"...but to my surprise...no horchata! I was told the owner's wife makes it when she feels like it, and it wasn't tonight. Chips and salsa will cost you $2.75, but we didn't order any.

The total bill (mine and Greedy Eater 1) cost $17.58 (including the tip).

Greedy Eater 1 Review:
I was expecting at least some good mexican food, but was pretty disappointed. I ordered the beef enchiladas. There were 3 enchiladas with rice and beans. Even though the enchiladas looked nice, they tasted dry because they didn't have sauce on them! If you go to some of the other mexican restaurants in the B-N area, they have sauce on their enchiladas. The rice and beans were so-so. If you want good mexican food, go to either Taqueria El Porton, Taqueria El Merendon, or Los Potrillos.
